Text Space

VR Installation at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, 1996

Wearing a data helmet the visitor is transported into a vast, virtual world of letters and texts. The visitor is able to enter text into the virtual space by using a virtual keyboard.
The words, which may be any length, are always set up in a 3D wire frame text floating in space in relation to the viewer’s current position. Visitors construct a continuously growing architecture of curtain-like, semi-transparent surfaces, which become readable at closer look. They also navigate the accumulation of messages that have been left behind by earlier visitors to this installation and entered via Internet
